- Victoria Street Market -
Since arriving in Durban as slaves in the 1800's the Indian community has had a big influence on the character of the city (and South Africa). The Market is located in Durban, for more info on the city click here. One of the easiest ways to sample Durban's Indian heritage is by visiting the Victoria Street (Indian) Market on the corner of Queen and Victoria Streets not far from Durban Harbour.

The Market deals mostly in spices and curios, while a fish market is located on a lower level. If you're a food lover you should buy a couple of spices here to try out at home. Durban is known for its hot and spicy food and only the brave visitor will request their meals to be prepared that way - its already hot enough as is...

A wide range of African arts and crafts is available including woven baskets, beaded dolls and animals, carved chairs and soapstone sculptures. On the oriental side there's a collection of ceramics, brassware, curry powders and general spices.
