Overview
The Spirit of Victoria take visitors to the V&A Waterfront on Table Bay cruises. The V&A Waterfront is located in Cape Town, click here for more info on the city. The Victoria and Alfred (V&A) Waterfront is the genuine article. It was developed in a working harbour (Cape Town harbour) and integrates port activities and leisure perfectly. It offers a fascinating and eclectic mix of speciality shops, markets, restaurants, bars, museums, cinemas and activities. It is quite possible to spend several days at The Waterfront and still not see all there is to see.

Although there are lots of attractions more than worth while visiting one of our favourites is the Two Oceans Aquarium. It displays South Atlantic fish and other sea life in a variety of tanks including a huge, open-ocean tank. Whether you just want to sit and stare at the seals seemingly always playing around or want a more in-depth educational experience this is a great place to spend an hour or so. For the museum buffs there's the South African Maritime Museum, rich in relics. For the rest there are also markets, malls, cabarets, buskers and live bands.

Robben Island
A former political prisoner explains the story behind a Nelson Mandela photograph taken during his prison time on the island. If you are at all interested in the history of Nelson Mandela and the struggle of black South Africans for equal rights in this country a visit to Robben Island should be high on your agenda. Tours depart from the recently opened Nelson Mandela Gateway inside the Waterfront. The tour lasts ±3,5 hours of which one hour is for the return ferry trip.

On the island guests are taken to Section B of the prison - viewing of Mr. Mandela's cell included -, the dormitory cells, the leper graveyard and church, the lime quarry, Robert Sobukwe's house and the prison officials' village. The view of Table Mountain and Cape Town below from the ferry out in Table Bay is truly amazing and that alone makes the trip worthwhile (booking essential).

Shopping
The Victoria Wharf and Alfred Mall at the V&A Waterfront in Cape Town. The Waterfront provides the opportunity for serious shopping. From the selection of over 190 speciality shops at Victoria Wharf and Alfred Mall, a careful mix of tenants caters for a wide range of needs. Shops cater for everything from fashion, jewellery, accessories, health and beauty, audio-visual and electronics, curios, memorabilia, books to unique foods and wines. Fashion and accessory stores number in excess of 60 ranging from men and women's wear to unisex and junior fashion. Appealing to the discerning fashion buyer, designer boutiques and larger fashion outlets offer a selection from basic garments to the outrageous.

Getting around
The best way to explore the Waterfront is to stop at one of the many information kiosks and to pick up the newest version of the Waterfront's complimentary information map. It not only shows the location of various attractions but also provides basic info on the more interesting ones.

For information on shows (drama, music or otherwise) and other happenings consult one of the local Cape Town newspapers. (Africa Deluxe Tours arranges theatre excursions for clients when requested)
