Overview Cape
Town International Airport (CIA) is the second largest and the second busiest
airport in South Africa, smaller
only than Johannesburg
International Airport (JIA). On average it handles ±4.6 million
passengers annually, it is believed that this figure will increase to 14
million by 2015. The airport has in the last few years undergone major expansion
and refurbishment programs to cope with the increasing number of passengers,
which is a direct result of the increase in tourism to South
Africa. Construction
at the airport is ongoing (as is the case at JIA).
A new international arrivals terminal was opened in 2001 and a new international
departures terminal in 2003.
A number of large international carriers have offices at Cape Town International including Air France, Air Mauritius, Air Namibia, BA Comair, British Airways, Civair, Egypt Air, Kulula.com, LTU International Airways, Lufthansa and Malaysia Airlines.
