In 1580, Sir Francis Drake described the Cape Peninsula as "The most stately thing and the fairest Cape we saw in the whole circumference of the earth". At the southern end of the Peninsula is the most south-western point of the African continent known as Cape Point. In between Cape Town and the spectacular Cape Point a variety of small fishing and seaside villages as well as other attractions are spread out. Many of them are connected by spectacular coastal drives.

We strongly recommend doing a guided or self-drive day-tour of the Peninsula on one of the days you spend in the Cape Town region. Most of Africa Deluxe Tours' packages include this day tour, otherwise clients can request us to include it for them. It is not possible to fit everything the Peninsula has to offer into a single day but a good selection of attractions would probably be: Camps Bay, Llandudno, Hout Bay (Duiker Island, World of Birds), Chapman's Peak Drive, The Cape of Good Hope Nature Reserve (Cape Point), Simon's Town (Boulders Penguin Colony) and the Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens. It is best to tour Cape Town proper and Table Mountain separately in order to leave yourself enough time to enjoy the experience.

The Cape Peninsula offers a variety of top-notch beautiful beaches. As a general rule those on the western side of the Peninsula caters for the younger and "in" crowd although the water is colder than the generally more family orientated beaches on the eastern side. The Peninsula is also home to Cape Town's only nudist beach, Sandy Bay, located on the Peninsula's western shoreline.

For information on beaches on the Peninsula's western shoreline, click here or for information on beaches on the Peninsula's eastern (False Bay) shoreline, click here.

Africa Deluxe Tours can organise all boat and/or beach based activities required by its clients - irrespective of whether arrangements relate to adventure type activities or more passive excursions.

A unique feature of greater Cape Town is the fact that it includes, within the metropole's boundaries, various large pristine natural areas under formal conservation. Table Mountain, in the hart of Cape Town is a good example.

Other areas included in the Table Mountain National Park (previously the Cape Peninsula National Park) are the Twelve Apostles Mountain Range, the Cape of Good Hope Nature Reserve and Boulders Beach - home to a large African Penguin colony.

Cape Town is located at the northern end of the Peninsula. It is the jewel in the crown of the South African tourism, unless you're a wildlife and nature purist in which case the Kruger National Park would probably take that honour. The city centre's location with the impressive Table Mountain as backdrop and expansive Table Bay in the foreground offers the first clue as to why this city is so loved by virtually all who visit it.

To understand even better what makes Cape Town such a great holiday destination add to the mixture friendly cosmopolitan residents, stunning beaches, breathtaking coastal drives, world-class hotels, great restaurants and coffee shops, shopping centres as well as pavement shops, arts, culture, history, adventure activities and a host of other attractions.
