- new South Africa -

The South African FlagThe "new South Africa" is a term that came out of political negotiations to put an end to the "old South Africa", or a South Africa based on racial segregation as was perpetuated in the political system of Apartheid. 1994 represents the watershed between the "new" and "old" South Africa. While the various parties involved in negotiating the death of Apartheid opted not to change the country's name to reflect the immense changes that was imminent there should be now doubt that the new and old South Africa are vastly different places. This is especially true in terms of a new-found human rights culture ensuring equal opportunities and equality before the law.
