Ron Belling was one of South Africa's foremost aviation artists. During his lifetime he produced 1650 paintings, of which 500 featured aviation subjects. He meticulously recorded various aircraft on canvas paying special attention to South African and Royal Navy craft. The Ron Belling Art Gallery (a.k.a. the South African Aviation Art Gallery) in Port Elizabeth exhibits a number of works from the Ron Belling Collection, it also hosts temporary exhibitions featuring other artists.

The Gallery is housed in a restored Art Deco residential house built in 1936. The building was designed by Gertruida Brinkman, the first female architect to graduate in South Africa and is a good example of the celebrated Art Deco era.
